End of Year Recap and Happy 2025!

What a year we’ve had here at Type Eighteen Books! We published The Swan Harp and The Lost King, books one and two in the fantastic Wings of Valenia fantasy trilogy. Have you checked out this continuing story about Princess Kiar, middle daughter of Queen Tianis of the swanfolk and King Tir, a human royal? Do you like dark magic, shapeshifters, and intrigue? We got you!

We also released The Dark Road this year. This psychological thriller is unlike any you’ve read before. It’s gripping, creepy, and resonant. Kirkus Reviews called it “an excellent thriller.” What more do you need?

Looking for a unique read? Check out Bellflower, a novel-in-stories that follows the lives and relationships of three families living in and around Bellflower, California. Author Jessica Francis Kane said “Each scene is vivid and well-wrought; I will think about these characters for a long time.”

It was a great year! We took our titles to the Tucson Festival of Books, the inaugural OC Book Fair, the ALA Annual Conference, the Portland Book Festival, the Belmont Shore Book Fair in Long Beach, CA, and the World Fantasy Convention in Niagara Falls, New York! We met so many people passionate about books and good stories.

We’re thankful for our readers and everyone who has been a part of the growth and successes of Type Eighteen Books. Thank you!

On the horizon for 2025 are more great stories by unforgettable voices. We recently announced new authors Katie O’Rourke and Micah Thorp. Unclaimed Baggage and Reclaimed Baggage will be out in April and May. Katie’s an award-winning author of big-hearted, contemporary fiction, and we’re thrilled to bring out her two new novels. Micah’s book will be out in September, and we’ll be telling you more about it in a few weeks.

And check back next week for the announcement of another new author!

Next on the publishing schedule are our three novellas, out in just over a month on February 4, 2025.

A tormented artist arrives in a village in southern France to begin painting again. He stands before a house with blue shutters, hoping the change of scenery and brilliant colors of the countryside will calm the buzzing in his mind.

A bold exploration of the encompassing drive of creativity, the power of art, and the bonds of community and friendship, MADAME SOREL’S LODGER explores what it means to follow or hide your heart and how these choices, in the end, are what make us human.

Ralph Unda has never been the same since the disappearance of his only daughter. Disturbed for some time by the death of a seagull, the young woman takes her father’s boat out one evening to photograph the sunset. Later, the Coast Guard returns with the vessel, but no Georgia.

A stunning meditation on innocence, attachment, and grief, THE VIGIL tells a timeless tale of mental struggle and acceptance. Written in beautiful, captivating prose, this story swirls with the mysteries and depths of the sea, and with aching resonance for anyone who has ever loved absolutely, beyond the limits of time and space.

Four solitary souls. One small town diner. A chain of events that changes everything.

These night hawks converge and separate under the fluorescent glow of the eatery, late at night and during long days, as the train speeds through, blaring its horn and signaling an alternate path. NIGHT HAWKS is a tender novella with a touch of noir about finding family in unlikely places, living through losses, and the connections that keep us showing up for another shift.
